Use Online
Use YETI online by clicking here: LAUNCH YETI
The main way to use YETI is to LAUNCH YETI here at the YETI website. This will launch the YETI Java Applet, where you can enter the default username 'guest' and default password 'password' to start using YETI. The YETI applet then forms a connection with the YETI database and launches the main YETI program where users can visualise and analyse the stored funcional genomic data sets.
Problems
A modern version (1.4.2_19 or above) of the Java Plug-in must be installed on the users computer (if not already there); if the YETI Applet can be seen as opposed to a grey error box then Java has already been installed and setup. If a grey area box appears, the solution is to go to the Java website and download the latest version of Java.
YETI attempts to establish a connection with a database stored on the YETI server via the Java Applet. We have found that some firewalls (computer or network) and browser security settings will block the YETI applet from establishing this connection and therefore YETI can not work. If you can see the YETI applet but can not login then it is most likely that a firewall is blocking the connection. One solution is to either try using YETI from another location.
Download
Alternatively, we have made the YETI program available as a downloadable Java Jar file here: Yeti_v2_j1_4_2_19.jar.
This downloadable Jar file often resolves the issues launching YETI via the online Applet versiopn. This Jar file can simply be downloaded and double clicked to launch YETI; as before, Java must be installed on your computer - specifically Java 1.4.2_19 or above.
In addition, as the YETI Jar file attempts to form a connection to the YETI MySQL databse on our server, the Java MySQL Connector must also be on your computer. Simply download the MySQL connector Zip (Windows) or Tar (Linux/OS-X) file here MySQL Connector/J.
Inside the downloaded folder there will be a file called mysql-connector-java-X.X.X.XX-bin.jar (where the Xs represent the version number). This jar file must be place in the Java JRE extension folder on your computer. For Windows, this is typically located in C:/Program Files/Java/jreX/lib/ext/ (where X represents the version number); if there is more than one jre folder, just copy the connector into all of them. For Mac, this is typically located in the /Library/Java/Extensions/ but you could alos copy it into all the lib/ext folders of the different versions of Java in /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/
The obvious advantage of the YETI Applet is that you do not need to download the MySQL connector, and that you will always be using the latest version of YETI.
